What is the Difference Between a Powertrain and a Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty?

When you purchase a new or pre-certified vehicle, there are several types of warranties that are available for your vehicle. Bumper-to-bumper, powertrain and corrosion are the common types of warranties that are available. Powertrain and bumper-to-bumper are the most important as they cover the major components of the vehicle.

Bumper-to-bumper is basic coverage that generally covers most of the vehicle parts from the front to the back. While this is considered a comprehensive warranty, items like interior fabric, glass and the outer panels are not covered. A powertrain warranty offers coverage for the parts that provide power and movement, such as the transmission and engine, plus for related parts such as the differential.

The bumper-to-bumper warranty covers more of the vehicle but is usually for thirty-six months. A powertrain warranty covers less parts but is typically for a longer duration than thirty-six months.
