Interpreting IIHS's Overall Safety Rating

Here at Lithia Nissan of Medford, we don't just sell cars. We sell safety. We show our customers how to buy an exceedingly safe vehicle.

The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) is one of the organizations that conducts crash tests and rates vehicles based on the results. It provides individual ratings for each test regarding various parts of the car. Following each test, it combines the results (Good, Acceptable, Marginal or Poor rating) to award a label to whole vehicle.

To ensure that you purchase a vehicle with a strong overall safety rating from the IIHS, look for its awards. Top Safety Pick indicates that the vehicle has performed well in all tests. Top Safety Pick+ indicates a superior performance.

To test drive vehicles that the IIHS has awarded with one of these safety labels, stop by our show room.
